Shell Vitrea

Shell Vitrea Oils were discontinued some time ago. They were initially replaced with Shell Process Oils, which were ultimately replaced with Shell Morlina S1 B oils. Unfortunately along the way, various grades of the original Vitrea oils were dropped, and there is now no direct replacement for some of them.

To understand which oils can be used to replace the old Vitrea oils, it is worth understanding their category and viscosities.

Vitrea oils were a mineral oil based circulating oil suitable for general purpose lubrication. They did not contain any specialist EP additives that could harm yellow metal components so were suitable for use over a wide range of applications. Mobil DTE Named Series can be used as a suitable replacement for the lower ISO viscosities and Shell Morlina S2 B Series can be used as a replacement for the higher viscosities.

The Following table shows how the old Vitrea naming scheme was converted to ISO VG based names when ISO standardisation was introduced.
